The Northern Nevada Championship has progressed through the finals, with quarter-final results Sheryka over Wyatt 3-0, Bartkus over Bayati 3.5-0.5, Ryba over Weikel 3.5-0.5, and Straver over Wermer 3-0.The semi-final six game matches paired David Sheryka (1982) vs Gytis Bartkus (2067) and David Ryba (2111) vs Edwin Straver (2135). Both Davids lost to set up Straver vs Bartkus in the final six game match, which has now progressed through the fifth game.
Edwin Straver leads with 1 win and 4 draws, requiring Bartkus to win the last game with black to tie the match and force a playoff.
Straver won the championship.
Standings were based on the best 4 of 6 results in the following Southern Nevada tournaments:
Southern Nevada Open (Jan)
UNLV Rebel Open (Feb)
CCSN Spring Open (Mar)
CCSN IRS Open (Apr)
CCSN May Open (May)
CCSN Summer Open (Jun)
The trophy winners are:
Open – Denis Marrero [2302] – 16.5
Expert – Tom Thrush [2116] – 14.5 (in tiebreaks [two] over Jorge Barrios)
Class A – John Brown [1958] – 12.5
Class B – Jim Brailsford [1763] – 8.5
Under 1600 – Chad Badgett [1663] – 6.5 (in tiebreak over Princess McGauhey)
Note: Chad was rated 1599 at the beginning of the Grand Prix.
